The special invention of the coffee pads
Antonino Di Leva is the inventor of the pads. In the 1970s he came up with the idea of serving coffee individually while taking a walk. The bottom and the lid were perforated, and each pad was vacuum sealed. After the development and production together with the coffee roasters Lavazza, the idea unfortunately failed due to family disputes. Thereafter, the company Illy took over the production of the pads. This is how the patented ESE pad system was created, the initials for “Easy Serving Espresso”. The coffee pads were originally designed solely for the preparation of espresso style coffee; black coffee preparation with coffee pads only really became popular in 2001.

A coffee pad is packaged and portioned ground coffee.
The pad contains 7g and makes one cup of coffee. To use the coffee pads, you need a coffee machine specially developed for such pads. We offer Senseo models from Philips in our shop. The Philips Senseo series has a stylish design and is easy to use. It is robust and of high quality and standard. In comparison with various models, it has received the highest rating in many consumer tests. The preparation of coffee with the coffee pad machines is becoming ever more popular, and thus the number of different coffee types and flavours has also increased. Because of this variety, there is a great advantage over classic coffee machines, as coffee lovers can vary the types of coffee pads individually, cup by cup.

Who is the coffee pad machine suitable for?The coffee pad machine fits into our modern everyday life, in which everything must workfaster and be easy to use. Only a minority of people take the time to grind the coffeebeans themselves, for example. Thus, the small machine fits perfectly in
households where coffee is consumed on an occasional basis.

Coffee pads have been extremely popular They are particularly practical because they can be used to prepare a single cup of
coffee quickly and without any fuss. Coffee pads are now available in a wide variety of flavours and styles, from normal to long blacks to latte macchiatos that can come with a variety of flavours, for example with the note of chocolate, vanilla, caramel, or hazelnut.

Pricing wise, they are far cheaper than coffee capsules since pads can be produced easily.Relative to capsules, they consist of a thin fleece of cellulose. The capsules, on the other hand, are made of plastic and aluminium, materials that are significantly more expensive to manufacture.

Moreover, it is also worth mentioning the environmentally friendly disposal of these
pads, as they can be disposed of in organic waste bins or as residual waste. They are even compostable and if you have a garden you can dispose of them in the compost heap, or in flowerpots at home.
